Add knowledge to your AI agent

Teach your agent from your website, single pages, PDF and Word files, or questions and answers you write yourself.

Updated October 24, 2026

Your AI agent answers only from what you add on the Knowledge page, plus what you write in About your business on the AI agent page. When it can't find an answer there, it says so instead of guessing.

To start, open Knowledge, then Add source. There are three tabs.

URL: a whole website or single pages

Choose one of the two options:

  • Website scans your site's main pages: home, FAQ, about and so on. Enter your site's address, for example https://example.com.
  • Single page reads only the address you enter, for example https://example.com/faq. You can add several addresses at once with Add another URL.

If your site exists in more than one language, we ask Which language should we scan? before starting. Pick the language your agent should learn from. You can scan another language later as a separate source.

Your agent answers visitors in their own language, even when your knowledge is written in another one.

Q&A: questions and answers you write

Use this for anything that isn't on your website, such as opening hours, delivery areas or prices you quote by phone. Write the question the way a visitor would ask it, then the answer. A question can be up to 1,000 characters and an answer up to 10,000.

File: PDF or Word documents

Upload a PDF or DOCX file. Its text is read and added to your knowledge. The size limit depends on your plan and is shown in the upload box.

A scanned PDF, made of pictures of text, has no text we can read. Use a PDF with selectable text, or add the content as Q&A.

After you add a source

Each source shows a status: Pending, Processing, then Ready. Your agent uses a source as soon as it's Ready. A website shows how many of its pages are ready.

If a source shows Failed, click See why. The article Fix a knowledge source that failed explains each reason.

Click any source to see its details. A website opens on the list of its pages.

What your agent can't read

  • pages behind a login, or pages that refuse access to robots,
  • pages that only show their text after JavaScript runs,
  • text inside images.

Add that content as Q&A or as a file instead.

Keep your knowledge up to date

Sources aren't refreshed automatically. When a page changes, delete the source, then add it again. To fix a Q&A answer, delete the pair and add the corrected one.

You can rename a source with the pencil next to its title. Visitors see this name in the Sources list under an answer.

Limits on your plan

The Sources used bar at the top of Knowledge shows how many sources you have and how many your plan allows at a time. A website counts as one source, whatever its number of pages.

Website scans, single pages and files also have an allowance: per month on paid plans, and in total on Free. Q&A pairs only count as sources. Deleting a source frees a slot in Sources used, but doesn't give back the scan, page or file allowance. See your numbers on Usage and in Plans, message limits and what happens at the limit.

A website scan reads up to a set number of pages, depending on your plan. When your site has more, the source says how many more were found.
